new cancer cases each year
Our hematology and oncology center treats infants, children, adolescents and young adults with all types of cancer. While our primary service area is the six contiguous counties surrounding Tarrant County, our referral area is more than 121,000 square miles in size, roughly the size of the entire state of New Mexico.
The Blast was started to honor the promise Alexa Sankary made to her friend, Michael Mancuso, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of four. Before he passed away just three years later, she promised him she would help find a cure for children still suffering from this rare and aggressive form of cancer.
In the 17 years since that sweet promise, The Blast has become a wonderful community walk honoring Michael’s memory and every child fighting pediatric cancer. It celebrates the courage and strength of Cook Children's patients and families and the staff who support them.
