Welcome to My Blast 2022 Page
Henry was diagnosed with High-risk Stage 4 Neuroblastoma in October 2020, when had just turned 6 years old. He had not been growing properly and was seeing an
endocrinologist. After a growth hormone stimulation test, we learned his pituitary gland wasn’t producing enough growth hormone, and he would need to start treatment for that. As part of the insurance approval process, an MRI of the pituitary is required to start treatment. We were told it was very unlikely they would find anything, so we were totally surprised to learn Henry had multiple masses in his cranium, with one near his pituitary gland. It took a couple of weeks to finally get the proper diagnosis. Henry had a total of 3 biopsies, including one craniotomy. Finally, a CT scan of his abdomen showed a large tumor on his adrenal gland, significant bone metastases and bone marrow involvement. Induction chemotherapy treatment started immediately. Henry has had 5 rounds of chemotherapy, MIBG radiation and surgery to remove the primary tumor. After all of that treatment, unfortunately Henry’s cancer had not responded very well. His cancer is chemo-resistant and is considered refractory. Currently, Henry is getting chemo-immunotherapy treatment, and it is showing some success at reducing the cancer in his bones. He has had six rounds so far, with plans to continue as long as the cancer is responding. Also, Henry’s bone marrow is now clear of Neuroblastoma. Although Henry’s cancer is stubborn, he is still in the fight to beat this!
Our family are grateful for the extraordinary Neuroblastoma team at Cook Children’s.
We are also so thankful for the fantastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, respiratory
therapists, audiologists and the wonderful nurses on 5NT in the hospital. Henry has
benefited from Child Life, play therapy, and the hospital chaplain. We are thankful for
such comprehensive care provided at Cook Children’s Hospital
We ask that you pray for the many families dealing with childhood cancer, pray for the children fighting this horrible disease, pray for the survivors, pray for the many nurses and doctors who are dedicating their life to the care and exploration of science to fight this disease and finally to pray for HENRY. #blastawaycancer
