HISTORY

The Blast was started to honor the promise Alexa Sankary made to her friend, Michael Mancuso, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of four. Before he passed away just three years later, she promised him she would help find a cure for children still suffering from this rare and aggressive form of cancer.

In the 15 years since that sweet promise, The Blast has become a wonderful community walk honoring Michael’s memory and every child fighting pediatric cancer. It celebrates the courage and strength of Cook Children's patients and families and the staff who support them.

Please join us as we make it our mission to #blastawaycancer. For more information about the 2022 walk, email TheBlast@cookchildrens.org.
